Will I Serve In NYSC After ND or NCE?

Many people who have completed their ND or NCE programs may wonder if they can go for NYSC after graduation. NYSC stands for National Youth Service Corps, which is a one-year mandatory service scheme for Nigerian graduates.

In this blog post, I will explain the requirements and options for ND and NCE holders who want to serve their country.

First of all, let me clarify that ND and NCE are not enough to qualify for NYSC. ND means National Diploma, which is a two-year program offered by polytechnics. NCE means Nigerian Certificate in Education, which is a three-year program offered by colleges of education. These are both sub-degree qualifications that do not confer the same status as a university degree or an HND.

HND means Higher National Diploma, which is a two-year program offered by polytechnics after completing an ND. HND is equivalent to a university degree in terms of eligibility for NYSC. Therefore, if you have an ND, you can either cross over to a university and obtain a degree or continue with an HND program and complete it.

Similarly, if you have an NCE, you can either cross over to a university and obtain a degree or continue with a post-NCE program and complete it. Post-NCE is a one-year program that upgrades your NCE to an HND equivalent.

So, to summarize, there are two main qualifications that make you eligible for NYSC:

  • University degree (e.g., BSc, B.Tech, B.Agric, etc.)
  • Higher National Diploma (HND) or Post-NCE

However, there are some other qualifications that are also recognized by NYSC, such as IJMB and JUPEB. IJMB stands for Interim Joint Matriculation Board, which is a one-year advanced level program that allows you to gain admission into 200 level in any university of your choice. JUPEB stands for Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, which is a similar program that also grants you direct entry into 200 level.

Therefore, if you have any of these qualifications, you can also apply for NYSC:

  • IJMB certificate
  • JUPEB certificate

I hope this blog post has answered your question on whether you can go for NYSC after ND or NCE. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to leave them below. Thank you for reading!
